Fairtrade City Gothenburg

Gothenburg has been a Fairtrade City since May 2011. This diploma recognises that Gothenburg lives up to the criteria for ethical procurement, has a proactive information programme and a selection of ethical-labelled products in shops, cafés and workplaces.

What is fair trade?

Fair trade means trading on fair terms, under which the producers or growers of the products have good working and living conditions. There are various labels that indicate that a product has been produced and traded on fair terms. Examples of ethical labels include Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, UTZ Certified and WFTO. There are also products that have been traded fairly but don’t have any label to indicate it.
