Local Actors Driving the Greening of VET (Vocational Education and Training)
This page provides contextual information about the seminar organised by Gothenburg European Office together with the European Commission, European Forum of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, NXTGENGBG, Copenhagen Skills and the KESTU project titled: “Local Actors Driving the Greening of VET”.
About the seminar
The seminar was organised on the 6th of June 2023, as an official partner event of EU Green Week. During the seminar, we discussed the lack of green skills in the work force, something that is vital, but often overlooked in the climate debate. This year, being the European Year of Skills, provided an opportune moment to highlight what skills are needed for the green transition, while also linking two of the key priorities for this European Commission (2019 – 2024) – A European Green Deal and An Economy that Works for the People.
Adaptability and a common language
Since it is impossible to foresee all the skills that will be needed in the future, teaching adaptability as part of VET is crucial. In this way, citizens can find it easier to follow changes in the labour market and match them. Establishing a common language is also a key factor, both for promoting effective communication and understanding but also for mobilising communities towards sustainable practices.
