The importance of queer safe-spaces in a heteronormative world — co-organised with MEP Malin Björk
Date: 19th of September, 12:30-14:30, at the European Parliament in Brussels (Spinelli 1E1)
In a world dictated by heteronormativity, it is especially important for queer individuals to have access to safe spaces. These safe spaces can serve multitude of functions, such as refuge, social cohesion, identify exploration, normalisation, health services and information tailored to the needs of the community. It is therefore not strange that these safe spaces have been the target of those who wish the community harm, whether through discriminatory policies (LGBTQI free zones), legislative action (banning queer literature) or violent hate crimes (shotting of LGBTQI nightclubs). This event seeks to explore why queer safe spaces need to be protected in a European context, and how local authorities are working to ensure that they exist.

A discussion between three local projects on the importance of approaching the green transition through inclusive skills development. The projects focus on socially inclusive development of skills, but take different approaches: sustainable recreation and conservation of nature (Oslo), industry/city cooperation (Volvo/Gothenburg), and creating future job profiles (Madrid). This interactive event aims to develop best practices and co-create solutions to common challenges.
