International Relations Office

International activities pursued by the City of Gothenburg are focused primarily on promoting the city’s interests abroad, as well as creating opportunities for an exchange of experience and knowledge with other organisations worldwide.

The International Relations Office supports the City Council and the Executive Board in the coordination of Gothenburg’s international collaboration work in five key areas:

  • Cooperation with other cities
  • Membership of international organisations and networks
  • Monitoring of specific issues and interests abroad
  • International projects
  • Representation and official visits

The International Relations Office collaborates closely with Gothenburg European Office in Brussels, which represents the city and local bodies in their dealings with the European Union and its institutions, as well as other organisations in Brussels.

The International Relations Office is also responsible for coordinating the City Youth Council and Student Forum, as well as overarching issues relating to democracy.
