A sense of time in Swedish winter and summer can be somewhat altered. Long periods of light and dark can merge multiple days or even weeks into one constant experience, with small changes building up unnoticed.

Paintings are either a part of one extended day or one extended night, with dates as artificial breaks to perceive the time passed. A common element is a love of people and love of places, moments when she experienced serenity and an imminent sense that they might end.

Paintings are based on photographs and sounds recorded in these periods, with the last winter painting as an exception. It was made in anticipation of winter ‘24 when Frilagret is expected to close. This was a treasured space for her and also where some of these paintings were first sketched out.

Lara is a student in environmental science, originally from Croatia. Using oil paint and coloured pencils, she paints because it helps her look more closely. And also because she mostly likes it.
