Nya regler för sfi från 1 januari 2026
Från och med den 1 januari 2026 gäller nya nationella regler för studier i sfi (svenska för invandrare). Den viktigaste ändringen är att: Du ska bli klar med sfi inom tre år. (Scroll down to find the information in English)
Från 1 januari 2026 gäller nya regler för SFI i hela Sverige.
Du kan studera SFI i tre år
Du har rätt att studera SFI i högst tre år.
- Tiden räknas från den dag du börjar.
- Om du redan studerar SFI räknas tre år från 1 januari 2026.
- Det spelar ingen roll om du studerar heltid eller deltid.
- Om du flyttar till en annan kommun fortsätter samma tre år.
Alla SFI-studier efter 1 januari 2026 räknas ihop.
Kan jag få mer tid?
Bara om du har särskilda skäl. Det kan till exempel vara:
- sjukdom
- graviditet eller föräldraledighet
- kort skolbakgrund
Rektor kan besluta om mer tid.

From 1 January 2026, new national rules apply to studies in SFI (Swedish for immigrants). The most important change is that you must complete SFI within three years.
You can study SFI for three years
You have the right to study SFI for a maximum of three years.
- The time is counted from the day you start.
- If you are already studying SFI, the three-year period starts from 1 January 2026.
- It does not matter if you study full-time or part-time.
- If you move to another municipality, the same three-year period continues.
All SFI studies after 1 January 2026 are counted together.
Can I get more time?
Only if you have special reasons, for example:
- illness
- pregnancy or parental leave
- short educational background
The principal (head teacher) decides if you can get more time.
